WAYNE'S WORLD   Kieran Trippier claims Diego Costa calls him ‘Rooney’ ten times a day and is ‘the funniest player I’ve played with’

KIERAN TRIPPIER has hilariously revealed that Atletico Madrid team-mate Diego Costa calls him "Wayne Rooney" - 10 times a day.

Given that Trippier has been at Atletico for 95 days at the time of writing, that means he has been called the wrong name 950 times by his enigmatic team-mate.

The 19-cap England international joined the Spanish club from Spurs in the summer for what is the first time he has played outside of the UK.

But the 29-year-old looks to have settled right in at Atletico, and has put in some top-class performances.

And a man Trippier calls "the funniest player I've played with" seems to have helped settle any nerves - even if he is called a different name.

Speaking about Costa to Marca, Trippier said: "He calls me Rooney 10 times a day.

"He does it all the time, just for a laugh. But it's Diego, I don't care.

"We all find it funny and I like that he always makes jokes.

"I knew him from the Premier League and he's the funniest player I've ever played with.

"There's a great atmosphere here and everyone makes jokes, but Costa is the funniest."

SunSport reported last month how Tripper has become an instant hit in Spain following his cut-price move from Tottenham this summer.

He's also impressed off the pitch with his readiness to embrace the culture in La Liga, by revealing that he's taking Spanish lessons three times a week.

Trippier insists he was pushed out by manager Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy before Poch hit back that before he signed him, the full-back was a second-division player.
